Review before renewal
Long-term medicines should not be renewed blindly. An Irish GP on DrOnline247.ie reviews indication, dose, side effects, interactions and monitoring needs before deciding whether a refill is appropriate.
When suitable, an e-prescription can be directed to your usual Irish pharmacy. A refill is never guaranteed on request alone.
What we do not renew online
Controlled drugs are not prescribed online. Some treatments also need recent bloods, blood pressure checks or face-to-face review before safe renewal — your doctor will say if that applies.
Often suitable for online review
- Stable long-term medicines where remote review is clinically reasonable
- Renewals to a pharmacy in Ireland when assessment supports continuing treatment
Not for online booking
- Controlled drug requests
- New high-risk medicines without adequate history or monitoring
Common questions
- Is treatment refill the same as a new prescription?
- A refill is a renewal of ongoing treatment after review. Starting a new medicine still requires clinical assessment of whether it is appropriate for you.
