Sick Certificate in Dublin — After a GP Assessment
Dublin employers still want a note. HR in a big firm in the Docklands and a supervisor on a site in Ballymun use different forms, but the clinical rule is the same: a sick cert is a medical judgement, not a receipt for paying a booking fee. This page is for people who need a workplace absence certificate and are in Dublin city or county.
For life-threatening emergencies in Ireland, call 999 or 112. Do not wait for an online appointment.
Complete the secure booking form below — same appointment flow as our main booking page. Fee is shown before you pay.
Sick cert versus medical certificate — do not mix them up
A sick certificate (sick note, work cert) is usually a short statement that you were assessed and were unfit for work for a stated period. A medical certificate in our Dublin pages means a broader letter — fitness to return, school, travel, sports — with different wording. If you need the broader letter, use the medical certificate Dublin page so the GP is not writing the wrong document.
Some workplaces want their own template. Say that in the booking form and have a PDF ready. The GP still decides whether any document is justified.
Backdated certs are a minefield. If you were unwell last week and only ringing now, expect questions. Honesty beats a story that does not line up.
How Dublin work culture collides with GP ethics
Retail, hospitality, warehouses in Baldonnell, and public service desks often demand a cert after day two. That pressure is real. It does not force a doctor to certify an illness they have not assessed.
If you are well enough to be on a night out in Temple Bar that appears on a colleague’s camera roll, do not be surprised if the history and the request jar. GPs are not detectives, but they are not fools either.
Shift patterns matter. A 48-hour cert that ends in the middle of four night shifts may be useless to you. Explain the roster; do not demand a round number of days for convenience alone.
What the GP needs to hear
Onset, symptoms, temperature if you measured it, what you tried, other conditions, medicines, and whether you are improving. “I just need a cert” without a history is not a consultation.
Mental health days are still medical when anxiety or low mood is the reason. They are also easier to mishandle. See our Dublin anxiety page if that is the real story, then book — the cert still follows assessment.
Children’s certs for a parent’s absence are a different question (you are not the patient). Be clear who is ill.
What we will not do
We will not sell open-ended certs, forge dates, or certify you for a job you have already told us you attended. We will not issue certs for court, Garda, or social welfare processes that need a specific statutory form we cannot complete remotely — the GP will say if that is the case.
DSP / illness benefit paperwork can be more than a simple sick cert. Do not assume a remote note replaces every Department form.
If you need to be examined — for example a suspected injury that affects work — remote certification may be refused until you are seen in person.
After it is issued
You typically receive a digital document to forward to HR. Check the dates and your name before you send it. If HR rejects the format, come back with their requirements rather than inventing a second diagnosis.
A cert is not a prescription. If you also need treatment, that is a separate clinical decision in the same consult or a follow-up.
Keep a copy. Dublin workplaces mislay emails as often as anywhere else.
Related Dublin care
Flu and coughing pages cover the illnesses that generate a lot of short certs in winter. Headache and anxiety cover other common reasons people miss work. Use the matching page if it fits, or book a general consultation if it does not.
The national sick cert Ireland service page explains the product without the city. This URL targets people who searched with Dublin in the query.
Emergencies never wait on a cert. If you are that unwell, skip this page and use 999 or 112.
Trust, fees and safety-netting for Dublin patients
DrOnline247.ie is a private remote GP service. Dublin searchers should treat every page on this city cluster as local intent sitting on top of the same Irish Medical Council registered doctors who see patients nationwide. We do not operate a walk-in in the city centre, and we do not replace the Mater, St Vincent’s, Tallaght or your own practice when those doors are the safe ones.
Fees are shown before you pay. We do not publish invented euro prices in articles because prices can change and because stuffing numbers into medical copy is how pages look like ads. Certificates, e-prescriptions and letters follow assessment. Controlled medicines are not prescribed on this service.
If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or 112. For mental health crisis support in Ireland use Samaritans 116 123 or Pieta 1800 247 247. Those numbers beat any booking form on a Dublin phone.
Keep your usual Dublin practice in the loop for smears, vaccines, chronic disease and anything that needs a file over years. A remote consult is a way through a closed list, not a second identity. If a GP on this service sends you toward in-person care, take that as the clinical product — not as a website failing to “complete” a sale.
Internal links on every Dublin URL exist so you can move from this cluster to Online Doctor Ireland, Online GP Ireland, Book by concern, pricing, policies and clinical governance without opening a new Google tab. That is how we keep city pages useful and keep national pages from being cannibalised.
