What an online GP consultation covers
An online GP consultation on DrOnline247.ie is a clinician-led appointment for suitable primary-care issues: symptom review, advice, treatment plans, and — when clinically appropriate — e-prescriptions or a sick cert (medical certificate).
Your doctor assesses whether remote care is safe for your presentation. If a physical exam, urgent investigation or emergency care is needed, they will tell you clearly and redirect you to the right next step.
How booking works on DrOnline247.ie
Choose a time, complete your details, and join by secure video or phone. Consultations are for non-emergency care across Ireland. For life-threatening symptoms, call 999 or 112 immediately — do not wait for an online slot.
Often suitable for online review
- Common illnesses and symptom advice when remote assessment is reasonable
- Medication reviews and prescription renewals when clinically appropriate
- Sick cert / medical certificate requests after assessment
- Follow-up on stable conditions where face-to-face care is not essential first
Not for online booking
- Chest pain, severe breathlessness, stroke signs, heavy bleeding or collapse — call 999/112
- Conditions that clearly need examination, imaging or emergency department care
Common questions
- Is an online GP consultation the same as seeing my usual GP?
- It is a real medical consultation with an Irish-registered GP, but it is not a replacement for ongoing relationship care with your registered practice when that is available and more appropriate.
- Can I get a prescription or sick cert?
- Only if the doctor decides it is clinically appropriate after assessing you. Controlled drugs are not prescribed online.
