Remote care for children — careful limits
Some childhood concerns can be discussed online when a parent or guardian is present and the child can be assessed safely by video or phone. The GP will say clearly if an in-person review or emergency care is safer.
Infants, high fever with worrying signs, breathing difficulty, dehydration, non-blanching rash, or rapid deterioration need urgent local care — do not wait for an online slot.
Often suitable for online review
- Suitable non-emergency child health questions with parental supervision
- Advice on when to escalate to face-to-face or ED care
Not for online booking
- Emergencies or red-flag symptoms in children — call 999/112 or attend ED
- Consultations without a parent/guardian present
Common questions
- Do I need to be with my child?
- Yes. A parent or guardian must supervise the whole consultation.
