Online GP Consultation in Dublin

A consultation is the actual appointment, not a brochure. In Dublin that usually means you need a doctor this week, your practice cannot offer a slot, and you would rather not sit in a waiting room on the Green Line with a temperature. This page is the Dublin booking path for a general video or phone GP consult on DrOnline247.ie.

For life-threatening emergencies in Ireland, call 999 or 112. Do not wait for an online appointment.

What “consultation” means on this service

It is a timed conversation with an Irish Medical Council registered GP. You describe what is going on. They take a history, look at what video can reasonably show, and decide what is safe. Advice, a medicine, a cert, a referral suggestion, or “you need to be seen in person” are all legitimate endings.

It is not a promise of antibiotics, diazepam, or a week off work. Dublin search ads sometimes imply otherwise. We do not. If a product cannot be issued remotely, you will hear that in plain English.

Bring the same honesty you would bring to a surgery in Rathmines. Half-told histories waste the slot and can send you down the wrong path.

Who in Dublin this page is for

Renters between practices, people who moved from Cork or Poland and have not landed a list yet, parents who cannot do the 9am rush to a surgery in Clondalkin, and office workers who get fifteen minutes of privacy at lunch. Also older adults who can manage a phone call but not a bus into town.

It is a poor fit if you already know you need stitches, a smear, a childhood vaccine, or a chest that must be listened to today. Book local in-person care for those.

Students in Dublin 8 and workers in Dublin Airport rotas use this path for similar reasons: the body does not wait for a convenient clinic hour.

Video versus phone from a Dublin address

Video helps for skin, throat, eye redness, and how unwell you look. Phone is better in a noisy house in Tallaght or when you simply will not go on camera. Choose in the booking flow.

Do not take the call walking through Connolly station. Background noise hides breathing changes and you will rush the history.

If the GP needs to see something and you chose phone, they may ask you to switch or to attend in person. That is safer than guessing.

After the call: chemists, letters and your own GP

An e-prescription, when clinically suitable, goes to the pharmacy you name — a SuperValu chemist in Swords or an independent in Portobello, it does not matter to the script, only to you collecting it.

If work wants a sick cert, say so early. The GP still decides duration from the history, not from your roster.

Send the summary to your usual doctor if you have one. Fragmented care is how medicines get doubled up.

Limits specific to remote primary care

No bloods, no swabs, no smear, no childhood immunisation, no controlled drugs. Abdominal pain that is worsening, testicular pain, possible fracture, and first seizures are not “book a video and see”.

Mental health crises need 999, 112, or the supports named on our anxiety page — not a routine consult slot.

Children must have a parent or guardian on the call. Paediatrics has extra limits; the GP will not stretch them to be helpful.

How this sits beside other Dublin pages

Use this page when you want a general consult. Use sick certificate or medical certificate when the paperwork is the main job. Use flu, coughing, headache or anxiety when that is clearly the story — the history will still be broad, but the page helps you prepare.

National pages such as Online GP Ireland explain the service without a city. This URL exists because people type “online GP consultation Dublin”. The doctor pool is the same.

Internal links below jump to sibling Dublin topics and to Ireland-wide service pages so you are never trapped in one article.

Trust, fees and safety-netting for Dublin patients

DrOnline247.ie is a private remote GP service. Dublin searchers should treat every page on this city cluster as local intent sitting on top of the same Irish Medical Council registered doctors who see patients nationwide. We do not operate a walk-in in the city centre, and we do not replace the Mater, St Vincent’s, Tallaght or your own practice when those doors are the safe ones.

Fees are shown before you pay. We do not publish invented euro prices in articles because prices can change and because stuffing numbers into medical copy is how pages look like ads. Certificates, e-prescriptions and letters follow assessment. Controlled medicines are not prescribed on this service.

If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or 112. For mental health crisis support in Ireland use Samaritans 116 123 or Pieta 1800 247 247. Those numbers beat any booking form on a Dublin phone.

Keep your usual Dublin practice in the loop for smears, vaccines, chronic disease and anything that needs a file over years. A remote consult is a way through a closed list, not a second identity. If a GP on this service sends you toward in-person care, take that as the clinical product — not as a website failing to “complete” a sale.

Internal links on every Dublin URL exist so you can move from this cluster to Online Doctor Ireland, Online GP Ireland, Book by concern, pricing, policies and clinical governance without opening a new Google tab. That is how we keep city pages useful and keep national pages from being cannibalised.

  • Repeat of a simple issue you have had before, if the GP agrees it is still remote-safe

Not for online booking

  • Guaranteed prescriptions or certificates
  • Procedures that need a couch and a clinic

Common questions

How quickly can I get an online GP consultation in Dublin?
Slots are shown at booking and often include same-day options. Availability moves with demand; we do not advertise a fake “always 10 minutes”.
Can a Dublin GP consult be done on my lunch break?
Yes if you have privacy and a working connection. A bathroom cubicle in an office is a poor choice for anything personal.
Will ye send a prescription to my chemist in Dublin?
If the GP decides a medicine is appropriate and it is allowed on this service, an e-prescription can go to the pharmacy you name.
Is this the same as my medical card GP?
No. This is a private remote service. Medical card entitlements sit with your registered practice.
