Anxiety — A GP Conversation in Dublin, Not a Crisis Line
Dublin can be loud in your head even when the street is quiet: rents, contracts, a baby who will not sleep in a small flat, a manager on Slack at 11pm. Anxiety is medical when it takes over sleep, work, or your body. It is also easy to cheapen with a “sure everyone is stressed”. This page is a Dublin-intent GP consult path. It is not Pieta, not A&E, and not a promise of a particular tablet.
For life-threatening emergencies in Ireland, call 999 or 112. Do not wait for an online appointment.
Complete the secure booking form below — same appointment flow as our main booking page. Fee is shown before you pay.
If you are not safe right now
If you might act on suicidal thoughts, cannot keep yourself safe, or have taken an overdose — 999, 112, or an emergency department. Samaritans Ireland 116 123. Pieta 1800 247 247. Do not wait for a booked slot on this page.
Panic that feels like a heart attack still deserves emergency care if you have chest pain, collapse, or stroke symptoms. Panic and heart disease can look alike; we do not guess from a webpage.
Our national anxiety concern article goes deeper on Ireland-wide context. This Dublin URL exists because people search with the city. The safety rules do not change.
What a first GP anxiety consult is for
Naming what is happening: constant worry, panic waves on the bus, avoiding the Luas, insomnia, body symptoms, alcohol used as a brake. Checking thyroid-type questions, caffeine, cannabis, steroids, and whether low mood is sitting in the same chair.
Talking through options: self-help that is not insulting, counselling pathways, whether medicine might be discussed, and when a psychiatrist or in-person GP is the better door.
It is not a six-month therapy programme. If you need talking therapy as the main treatment, the GP can still help you start, they are not your weekly psychologist.
Dublin-specific pressure — useful, not a stereotype
International staff on assignment, students in Dublin 6 sharing houses, and people commuting from Kildare into a city they cannot afford to live in all bring different stress signatures. Tell the story you actually have.
Nightlife and cocaine come up in honest consults. Judgement helps nobody; hiding it helps the wrong treatment plan.
Shift work in hospitals around Dublin produces a particular insomnia-anxiety loop. Mention the roster.
Medicines without the myth
Some people need a conversation about antidepressants. Some need to hear that a benzodiazepine is not the opening move on a remote service, and may not be appropriate at all. Controlled medicines are not prescribed online on this platform.
If you already take something from a Dublin practice, do not double-track. Bring the name and dose.
Alcohol and anxiety feed each other. A GP who does not ask is not doing the job.
Work certs and privacy
You can ask for a sick cert if you cannot work. The wording need not dump your whole mental health history onto an HR inbox in a Dublin corporate. Say what you are comfortable sharing.
Use the sick certificate page if paperwork is the only lens — but if anxiety is the reason, book here or a general consult and tell the truth.
Parents booking for a teenager must be on the call. School stress in Dublin secondaries is real; so are safeguarding rules.
How this sits with national mental health URLs
Mental health GP service Ireland is the product page. Anxiety Ireland concern is the long national guide. Depression Ireland is separate because low mood that does not lift is not the same funnel as worry and panic.
Headache and weight pages are linked because the body keeps the score and patients often arrive through a physical symptom.
Book when you can talk for ten minutes without being in immediate danger. If you cannot, use the crisis numbers — that is professional advice, not a brush-off.
Trust, fees and safety-netting for Dublin patients
DrOnline247.ie is a private remote GP service. Dublin searchers should treat every page on this city cluster as local intent sitting on top of the same Irish Medical Council registered doctors who see patients nationwide. We do not operate a walk-in in the city centre, and we do not replace the Mater, St Vincent’s, Tallaght or your own practice when those doors are the safe ones.
Fees are shown before you pay. We do not publish invented euro prices in articles because prices can change and because stuffing numbers into medical copy is how pages look like ads. Certificates, e-prescriptions and letters follow assessment. Controlled medicines are not prescribed on this service.
If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or 112. For mental health crisis support in Ireland use Samaritans 116 123 or Pieta 1800 247 247. Those numbers beat any booking form on a Dublin phone.
Keep your usual Dublin practice in the loop for smears, vaccines, chronic disease and anything that needs a file over years. A remote consult is a way through a closed list, not a second identity. If a GP on this service sends you toward in-person care, take that as the clinical product — not as a website failing to “complete” a sale.
Internal links on every Dublin URL exist so you can move from this cluster to Online Doctor Ireland, Online GP Ireland, Book by concern, pricing, policies and clinical governance without opening a new Google tab. That is how we keep city pages useful and keep national pages from being cannibalised.
